When I drive to work on those rainy, dark winter mornings, I see children walking to school, cross from one side of the street to the other to stay on a sidewalk. As a grandmother of school-age children, I cannot help but worry for their safety. As a city, we must ensure our children have safe routes to school.
Like most Oregonians, I love riding my bicycle. While we have many safe streets for bike riding, we can encourage families to take rides together if we have more available paths. Riding bikes safely around town could lead to more people stopping to eat and shop in town.
