Decreasing our carbon footprint does not need to be complicated.
Instead, it can involve fun! One way is to establish a culture of bicycle riding and encourage more people to choose their bikes instead of taking the car. Increasing the number of safe bike paths throughout our city may encourage families to ride their bikes rather than drive their vehicles when they want to eat out or shop. Safe bike paths will help us encourage school children to ride their bikes to school rather than getting a ride in the car. Riding bikes has the additional benefit of encouraging healthy lifestyle behaviors.
Another way to decrease our carbon footprint is by providing more local job opportunities. I want to explore ways to encourage businesses to locate or start-up in Monmouth. In addition to the noticeable positive economic impact, if people work and live in Monmouth, they spend less time driving on the roads.
